After the great plague known as the Black Death nearly halved the population of Europe in the 1340s, there was a lot of spare land. It takes more land but less people to tend sheep than grow crops and wool was a valuable commodity, so England's wool industry took off, and in a century or two England was the most prosperous country in Europe.
JVS

Many Flemish broadweavers (wide loom operators) settled in Kent in the 1400s. Boorman is a 'good Dutch/Belgian name'.
A15

Weavers were invited from Leuven in Flanders by Edward III to teach the English the finer techniques of processing wool using hammer mills and Fullers Earth to soften the finished woven material.
A17

Broadweavers took the sheep fleeces from the clothiers and passed the finished article back to the clothiers who sold the wool products in the markets
A17
In 1569 John Boorman was of Hawkhurst.
