Some Drives round the Eastern USA,
2001 in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York
and 2002 in Denver, Ohio, Tennesee, Georgia and Indiana


with stopovers in Iceland and Bermuda on the way.


Our routes around the eastern USA

In September 1999 we flew to New York with a stopover in Iceland. We stayed in Westchester and visited New York city and Tarrytown.

In March 2001 we flew back to the States with a stopover in Bermuda. We drove from Boston up to Cape Neddick Maine, Portsmouth New Hampshire, Cape Cod, stayed at the Biltmore hotel in Providence Rhode Island, visited Mystic Seaport in Connecticut and on to New York.

In March 2002 we were in Boulder Colorado and visited Denver, Central City and Georgetown. On the way back we stopped at Cincinnati Ohio and drove down to Nashville and Chattanooga Tennessee, briefly into Georgia and back up via Cincinnati to Aurora and Rising Sun Indiana.

We also had a couple of visits to Toronto Canada (the yellow routes), one time driving via Niagara Falls and Thousand Islands to Ottowa (in 1990) and the other time going by train to Montreal and Quebec (in 2009).

.... and visited Pingvellir where the European and Atlantic tectonic plates are pulling apart, leaving a bit of a gap in the earth's crust!

A stopover in Bermuda in March 2001


On our way to Boston in March 2001 we stopped over in Bermuda, where we saw flamingos at the Aquarium at Flatts Village ....

From Boston to New York, March 2001


Finally we arrived in the USA! The Old State House in State Street Boston. Built in 1713, it is the oldest surviving public building in Boston.

A visit to Colorado in March 2002

The Chattanooga Choo Choo - the wood-burning locomotive originally belonging to the Cincinnati Southern Railway that inspired the famous song. Seen in Chattanooga Terminal station Tennessee, now a resort complex.
