A quick trip Round the World in November 1980 We had to go from Riyadh to London, so we went the long way round via Taiwan, Hawaii and San Fransisco! Taipei, Taiwan On 19th - 20th November we flew on Saudia to Bahrain and on Singapore Airlines to Singapore, then the next day on Singapore Airlines to Taipei, Taiwan, where we stayed at the Grand Hotel. We saw Dr Sun Yat Sen at the East Gate .... .... and visited Chiang Kai Shek's memorial. We saw a policeman directing traffic outside the Presidential palace .... .... and all sorts of shops on Chung Hwa Road. We went to Lungshan temple, built in 1738 .... .... and the nearby snake market, with its medicine shops. We visited the Confucius temple .... .... ate at Camel Valley Mongolian Barbeque and saw the Chinese opera. Taroko Gorge, Taiwan On the 23rd we flew China Airlines to Hualien and back, and visited Taroko Gorge and Tien Hsang. This is Taroko Gorge from Tsyrmun Bridge. We also visited a marble factory and saw before and after examples of marble working. Honolulu, Hawaii On the 24th we flew Singapore Airlines to Hawaii and had a quick break in Waikiki on Honolulu. We saw a candle maker working .... .... and had a nice view of the beach from the hotel room. San Fransisco, USA Then the next day we flew Singapore Airlines to San Fransisco. We visited Fisherman's Wharf .... .... and replacing the brake on a broken-down streetcar. On the 27th I flew Western to Salt Lake City for a meeting and back the next day, while Sheila and Jamie visited Sausolito and saw Alcatraz .... .... and the Golden Gate bridge. Then on 29th we flew TWA via Los Angeles to London. Finally on 12th - 13th December we flew TWA to Frankfurt, Singapore Airlines to Bahrain and Saudia back to Riyadh.
